Disorder → Fingerprint Translation
How Traditional "Disorders" Map to The 7
This shows how the same building blocks (The 7) combine in different ways to create what legacy systems call "disorders."
Key insight: Same characteristics, different combinations. No buckets needed. Just fingerprints.
The Mapping Table
| Traditional Bucket | HEAD | GUARD | HEART | GUT | GRIP | GROUND | REACH |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Major Depression | ~ | ~ | ↓↓ numb | ↓↓ empty | ↑ tight | ↓ floating | ↓ pulled in |
| Atypical Depression | ~ | ~ | ↓ muted | ↓ but reactive | ↑ tight | ↓ | ↑ needs others |
| Anxiety (GAD) | ~ | ↑↑ up | ~ | ↑ wired | ↑↑ tight | ~ | ~ |
| Panic Disorder | ~ | ↑↑↑ spiking | ~ | ↑↑ surges | ↑ tight | ↓ floating | ~ |
| PTSD | variable | ↑↑ up | ↓ numb | variable | ↑ tight | ↓↓ floating | ↓ pulled in |
| Complex PTSD | ~ | ↑↑ up | ↓↓ numb | ↓ | ↑ tight | ↓↓↓ fragmented | chaotic |
| ADHD | scattered | ~ | → chasing | variable | ↓↓ loose | ~ | ~ |
| OCD | locked | ↑ up | ~ | ~ | ↑↑↑ tight | ~ | ~ |
| BPD | ~ | ↑ up | variable | variable | chaotic | ↓↓↓ fragmented | ↑↑ merged |
| Bipolar - Manic | scattered | ↓ down | ↑↑ chasing | ↑↑↑ overflow | ↓↓ loose | ~ | ↑ |

Detailed Breakdowns
Major Depression
HEAD: ~ (attention may be ok or scattered)
GUARD: ~ (not primarily anxious)
HEART: ↓↓ CORE FEATURE: Can't feel pleasure, numb
GUT: ↓↓ CORE FEATURE: Depleted, no fuel
GRIP: ↑ Rumination, stuck thoughts
GROUND: ↓ Feel unreal, foggy, not here
REACH: ↓ Withdrawn, isolated
The "classic" depression profile: depleted + numb + withdrawn
Anxiety (Generalized)
HEAD: ~ (attention may be ok)
GUARD: ↑↑ CORE FEATURE: Constant vigilance, on edge
HEART: ~ (can still feel pleasure)
GUT: ↑ Often wired, restless
GRIP: ↑↑ CORE FEATURE: Worry loops, can't let go
GROUND: ~ (usually present, but tense)
REACH: ~ (variable)
High GUARD + tight GRIP = the worry machine
PTSD
HEAD: variable (flashbacks = locked on past, avoidance = scattered)
GUARD: ↑↑ CORE: Hypervigilance, threat everywhere
HEART: ↓ Numbed out, anhedonia
GUT: variable (can be depleted OR wired)
GRIP: ↑ Intrusive thoughts, can't let go of trauma
GROUND: ↓↓ CORE: Dissociation, not in body, time-dislocated
REACH: ↓ Trust broken, withdrawn
Disconnected from body/self (GROUND↓) + constant threat (GUARD↑)
ADHD
HEAD: scattered CORE: Attention bounces, can't direct
GUARD: ~ (not primarily anxious)
HEART: → chasing Often seeking stimulation, novelty
GUT: variable (can be hyperactive OR sluggish)
GRIP: ↓↓ CORE: Can't hold onto things, impulsive
GROUND: ~ (usually knows who they are)
REACH: ~ (variable)
Scattered HEAD + loose GRIP = the ADHD profile
OCD
HEAD: locked CORE: Attention stuck on obsession
GUARD: ↑ Elevated threat sense (contamination, harm, etc.)
HEART: ~ (can feel pleasure when not triggered)
GUT: ~ (variable)
GRIP: ↑↑↑ CORE: Cannot let go - obsessions + compulsions
GROUND: ~ (usually grounded)
REACH: ~ (variable)
Locked HEAD + extremely tight GRIP = the OCD loop
BPD
HEAD: ~ (attention usually ok)
GUARD: ↑ Sensitive to rejection/abandonment
HEART: variable Swings between intense feeling and numbness
GUT: variable Energy swings
GRIP: chaotic Swings between impulsive (loose) and ruminating (tight)
GROUND: ↓↓↓ CORE: Identity fragmentation, "who am I?"
REACH: ↑↑ CORE: Intense need for connection, fear of abandonment, merged
Fragmented GROUND + intense/chaotic REACH = the BPD pattern
Bipolar - Manic Episode
HEAD: scattered Racing thoughts, distractible
GUARD: ↓ Decreased threat perception, risky behavior
HEART: ↑↑ CORE: Euphoria, grandiosity, pleasure-seeking
GUT: ↑↑↑ CORE: Overflowing energy, decreased sleep need
GRIP: ↓↓ Impulsive, no brakes
GROUND: ~ May feel grandiose/inflated sense of self
REACH: ↑ Socially disinhibited, gregarious
Overflowing GUT + chasing HEART + loose GRIP = mania
Bipolar - Depressive Episode
HEAD: ~ (may be slowed)
GUARD: ~ (not primarily anxious, though can be)
HEART: ↓↓ Profound anhedonia
GUT: ↓↓↓ CORE: Complete depletion, can't move
GRIP: ↑ Rumination, hopelessness loops
GROUND: ↓ Feel unreal, disconnected
REACH: ↓ Withdrawn
Same person, opposite fingerprint - empty GUT, numb HEART
The Point
Different fingerprints, not different diseases.
Two people with "depression" might have completely different fingerprints:
- Person A: GUT↓↓, HEART↓, GRIP↑↑, GUARD normal
- Person B: GUT normal, HEART↓↓, GUARD↑↑, GRIP↑, GROUND↓
Same bucket. Different configuration. Need different interventions.
Using This Clinically
Instead of: "You have MDD + GAD"
Say: "Your GUARD is elevated, your HEART is muted, your GUT is depleted, and your GRIP is tight. Let's figure out which one to target first and what moves it for you."
The Spectrum Reality
Most people aren't clearly one "disorder" because The 7 exist on spectrums that everyone has. The question isn't "do you have X?" but "where are you on each dimension, and is that position working for you?"
